Andrea Carpita is the winner of the Level 0 Award of 2020, the format created by ArtVerona that invites 21 institutions, including museums and private foundations, to identify an artist present at the fair to promote within their future programming. Selected by Patrizia Nuzzo, Carpita presents, on the occasion of the 16th edition of ArtVerona, an exhibition project conceived specifically for the Notaries' Chapel at Palazzo della Ragione in Verona.
The visual charm of the Notaries' Chapel, in which the imagination, religious and contemplative themes are the protagonists, is translated by Andrea Carpita in the conception and production of the artwork Blue Traveler. The painting is a portrait of an astronaut in a cold and aseptic place. In the background a simple shutter creates a texture of lines and purplish grays that binds both the figure and the environment in an unusual portrait, in which the subject remains distant and unrecognizable. It is not a portrait of a specific individual, but of a figure with a strong symbolic connotation.
In the design of this work, the artist tried to highlight some chromatic aspects, creating a contrast between the warm and cold tones and the frescoes of the Notaries' Chapel, creating a mutual dialogue. The work, inserted in this specific context, represents a continuous game of contrasts on several levels, inevitably accompanying the viewer in a reflection on the cosmos, human existence and the transcendent.
