On the occasion of its twentieth anniversary, which started last May with the 20MCZ program of events, the Carlo Zauli Museum arrives in Bologna with the Mutaforma exhibition. Ceramic mutations of the CZ code, curated by the NN Collective, from 23 September to 30 October 2022 in the spaces of the Alchemilla Association.With this Bolognese exhibition, the NN Collective intends to bring new reflections on Carlo Zauli and contemporary ceramics, starting from the concept of metamorphosis, here understood as the principle of life and relationship that crosses and binds every living form into an organic whole.

The exhibition returns the hybridization between the hereditary component of Zauli and the ceramic culture of Faenza as a tradition of an art form among the earliest artistic expressions of the human being. This cultural heritage becomes a genetic inheritance, which over the twenty years of residences has been absorbed and reworked by the artist who inhabited the museum spaces. This is how the DNA of Zauli's work underwent a mutation. The mutant agents are the poetics, personal processes and influences that the artist brought to the museum's laboratories, generating ceramic forms in the light of a contemporary voice and its new instances. Mutation is therefore understood as a creative act, an observation point that highlights the points of continuity with Zauli's legacy, and at the same time the points of discontinuity necessary to trigger new evolutionary processes.

The exhibition will be deliberately designed and built in dialogue with the historic spaces of the sixteenth-century Palazzo Vizzani, headquarters of the Alchemilla association, in which the works will communicate and correspond with the environments steeped in intimate perception and memory. The spaces will also host meetings aimed at deepening the artist's work and creating suggestions around the theme of residences as workshops for the transmission and regeneration of an artistic heritage.
