CUBO, the corporate museum of the Unipol Group, confirms that it will take part in the Contemporary Art Day, organising the temporary exhibition Alberto Burri Reloaded - which will mark the return of the work “Nero con punti” [Black with stitches] curated by Ilaria Bignotti - in the spaces of CUBO in Porta Europa and Torre Unipol from 7 October, in line with the themes of this 18th edition related to ecology and sustainability. The project returns to the public one of the most significant works of this Umbrian Master after a long and painstaking restoration carried out by Muriel Vervat in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences and the "Nello Carrara" Institute of Applied Physics, both part of the National Council of Research (CNR) of Florence. The complex and delicate operation was carried out using innovative, green bio-restoration techniques. It is the heart of the exhibition project in Porta Europa and provides an in-depth look at some of the practices of art conservation through videos and expert talks. The exhibition concludes at CUBO's other venue in Torre Unipol, where four pieces by the Master will be exhibited in dialogue with the restored work, which has been extraordinarily provided by the prestigious Galleria Tornabuoni Arte. Two of these belong to the "Catrami" [Tars] cycle, both from 1950. They have been chosen for the dialogue they weave with the great Nero con punti, starting with the issue of stratification and composition of materials: here the protagonists are the pasty corrugated tars, but also the sands remixed with oils on thick canvases that accentuate the relationship between forms. Muffa [Mould], another masterpiece created in 1951, reaffirms the battle between magma and composition, aided by the materials that compose it: pumice stone mixed with oil on canvas swells and drips, clinging to the support and nestling in the pictorial layers as if in a continuous flourishing. In the Senza titolo [Untitled] work of 1952, the protagonist is the sack, together with sand, vinavil glue and collage, just as in Nero con punti ... "a battle of materials to try and sew the field, to put order back into the mysteries of the material that Burri so skilfully sews and weaves, manipulates and inflames".
