Culturally speaking, “educating” and “exhibiting” are getting more and more important and meaningful in today’s society. From such a fundamental assumption and thanks to an exhibition of newly-added acquisitions the wish to open the new Gallery of the Accademia di belle arti di Reggio Calabria to the public has stemmed.
Inside the Gallery it will be possible to see a cross section of both the 20th century and current visual art associated to that specific geographical area, namely Southern Italy, where a flow of artists – coming predominantly from Campania – has innovated but also revolutionized local artistic culture. Since its foundation in 1995, the Gallery has broadened its horizons in a process of perpetual evolution: the Gallery contains 120 works of art (including paintings and etchings) as well as 88 pieces among sculptures and bas-reliefs. The Gallery itself stands out as an example of strong identity which has always been strengthened by an ongoing and fruitful exchange of ideas carried out within the local area. Such an area interprets and historicizes a local artistic culture, a culture which has been enriched in time by incessant contaminations. It is of the utmost relevance to recognize the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio Calabria as the very place where such a cultural intersection has taken place and as a school of art from which the inescapable and mutual duty to educate and valorize descends.
Visitors will be escorted through the exhibition by the students of the School of Communication and Didactics of Art of the Academy of Fine Art of Reggio Calabria.
