Some biographical notes on Andrea Benetti
Andrea Benetti, painter, photographer and draftsman, born in Bologna in 1964, conceived and drafted the Manifesto of Neo Cave Art in 2006, which he subsequently presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale, in the "Nature and dreams" pavilion, set up at the university Ca' Foscari. The Manifesto is inspired by the origin of art, born in the caves of prehistory. In his works, Andrea Benetti quotes, transfigures, reinvents and plays with the concepts and forms of cave painting, hypothesizing an imaginary bridge between the contemporary world and the genesis of art. For over a decade, the Emilian artist has been carrying out projects in collaboration with various Italian and foreign universities, including Johns Hopkins University, the universities of Bologna, Roma Tre, Ferrara, Bari, Lecce, Messina and Bergamo. Over the years, some of them have included Andrea Benetti's Neo-Cave painting in their university research programs on contemporary art. His works are present in the world, in museums and in many institutional art collections, including that of the United Nations, the Quirinale, the Chamber of Deputies, the Vatican and various Embassies around the world. For this reason Benetti was received at the Quirinale, at the Chamber of Deputies and at the Vatican, where he met Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 and Pope Francis in 2014. Over the years, many university professors and important art critics have written about his poetry and have actively participated in the projects conceived by the Bolognese artist. Now consolidated over time, the Andrea Benetti voice is present in various encyclopedias, including Treccani and De Agostini (the most important Italian encyclopedias), the WikiArt encyclopedia (the most important online art encyclopedia in the world) and is present on Wikipedia, translated into thirty languages. In 2020, Andrea Benetti was awarded the 49th “Nettuno d'Oro” Award, the longest-running and most prestigious annual artistic award of his hometown of Bologna.
