ANATOMY
The 200 years of Anatomy Universa by Paolo Mascagni
from 7 to 22 October 2023
Paolo Mascagni (1755-1815) owes his fame to the complex research on the system of lymphatic vessels that he carried out between 1777 and 1781. It is also remembered for anatomical research in general and for leaving very high-quality teaching aids for teaching and studying anatomy, such as anatomical preparations and tables.
Just in 2023 the 200 years since the publication of ANATOMIA Universa: 90 tables 70x100 cm approx. 44 illuminated, 44 linear, 2 frontispieces, plus the volume of explanations came in possession of the Economic Society of Chiavari in 1841.
With this exhibition we intend to exhibit for the first time this collection that, in addition to the scientific value of absolute value, is a true work of art.
The panels will be exhibited in the Museum of Palazzo Ravaschieri (in Via Ravaschieri 19 in Chiavari) in two of the rooms, while in the other the public will be immersed in a journey through time and the human body through projections of the Anatomical Tables on the four sides of a room, accompanied by music.
In the background, in the Galleria G.F. Grasso (in Piazza San Giovanni 3 in Chiavari) will be set up a photographic exhibition entitled e-MOVERE of the TIFF Collective and in the Delpino garden / Sala Garaventa (in Via Ravaschieri 1 in Chiavari) a collective exhibition of sculptures entitled PLASTIC ANATOMIES, where the theme will always bring back to the human body, in its various facets.
Two conferences will be organized in support of the exhibition: one on the opening day, October 7, and one on October 14.
