Bipersonal show that opens RizzutoGallery's fall exhibition season. The protagonists of this dialogue are two German artists: Katharina Maderthaner, a sculptor from Düsseldorf who has been among the artists represented by RizzutoGallery since 2016, and Jochen Mühlenbrink, an internationally renowned painter living between Germany and the Netherlands, who has been invited to exhibit at the gallery for the first time.
What unites the work of the two artists is their working on the ambiguity of reality, and their creating a tension between perception and expectation, disrupting our conception of objectivity.
Katharina Maderthaner's artwork finds inspiration in some bizarre situations in everyday life in which the fake imitates the real and the copy attempts to blend in with the original, in a swing between good and bad taste. While Jochen Mühlenbrink is best known for his impressive trompe l'oeil paintings, through which he achieves seemingly natural optical effects.
