In the not easily readable city walls surrounding "Casteddu", the two Pisan towers stand out: that of San Pancrazio and that of the Elephant. The reorganization of the city and its modernization began in the mid-19th century, when it lost its status as a stronghold. Thus began the transformation of the historic fortifications with the first significant demolitions of towers and curtain walls. In the 20th century, the modernization of the city accelerated significantly, visible with a new urban reorganization and the creation of important buildings designed with almost cutting-edge architectural solutions and modern styles. There are still visible symbols: the Covered Promenade, the Civic Palace, the Civil Hospital to name a few. The bombings of 1943 triggered another explosion due to the economic boom: the building explosion where skyscraper buildings far exceeded the heights of the medieval towers.
The urban planning revolution of our city, told in a few steps, is also taking place in the way of documenting reality. Ever since the Lumière brothers invented cinematographic art, the vision of the world in movement has always been horizontal, but suddenly the smartphone put us "Vertical".
From these considerations the idea of this video art exhibition was born: to match the ancient symbol of a city, the Elephant Tower, with a contemporary vision of reality, whose trait d'union is Verticality. The exhibition consists of the nocturnal projection of the video works of the selected artists on the wall of the Torre dell'Elefante overlooking Via Santa Croce.
Throughout the day of October 7, it will be possible to access the first level of the Elephant Tower for free, where some prints of the frames of the video works will be installed and screened in the evening. The 30x40 format digital print will be produced by Gesto Segno Disegno and will have a limited edition of one copy per image.
Other works, always free of charge, will be visible at the Ghetto Art and Culture Center and at the Exmà Art and Culture Center, in an ideal continuity with these places, which in their programming usually offer exhibitions and events on the Contemporary, in particular at the Ghetto it will interact with the contemporary music festival Atmosferes organized by Spazio Musica, while at Exmà with the Children's Literary Festival "Tutte Storie".
In the days leading up to October 7th we will activate the "Contemporary Places" alternative spaces not devoted to art that will be used as exhibition spaces.
In Verticale is created by the Sémata cooperative in collaboration with Agorà Sardegna and Coop Culture and with the patronage of the Municipality of Cagliari.
