The Piero Cattaneo Foundation, founded in 2010 as a non-profit association and transformed in 2020 into a Foundation, was founded with the aim of promoting the figure of Piero Cattaneo (Bergamo 1929 - 2003)artist trained at the School of Fine Arts of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo under the guidance of Achille Funi. Piero Cattaneo’s research, supported by his explosive creativity, developed over the course of the 20th century exploring different disciplinary fields: from sculpture, his first expressive instrument, to medals, to the field of illustration for childhood. The Piero Cattaneo Foundation, directed by Marcella Cattaneo, art historian and daughter of the sculptor, is open to anyone who shares the aims of this cultural project.

The Foundation has joined the commitment to protect the artistic heritage linked to the sculptor, his name and his important conceptual heritage, the promotion and enhancement of the places of creation of art and plastic techniques of the twentieth century, through the project the Sculpture Workshop. The hidden workshops, an event that aims to promote knowledge of the places of sculpture and its protagonists, creating a mapping of these spaces of sculpture of the twentieth century, proposing a new circuit of cultural tourist interest in Lombardy. The opening to the public of these workshops in which art is created, is intimately linked to the life of the artists and the historical and cultural context in which they operate; their knowledge stimulates reflection on the outcomes of sculptural art, between techniques, artistic investigations and relationship with the contemporary.

The sixth edition of L'Officina della Scultura, promoted by Fondazione Piero Cattaneo and curated by Marcella Cattaneo, takes place from October 2 to November 30, 2023.
The project is part of the program of The city of treasures hidden within the palimpsest of Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture 2023. Founded on the traces of the sculptural research of the twentieth century, the event offers a new route, this year geographically located among the patrimonies spread in the territories of Bergamo and Brescia. This Sixth Edition sees a program that, in addition to some stages that distinguish the activity of Officina della Scultura, alongside some novelties that broaden the reflection on sculptural culture and offer new angles.
Visits to the workshops start from Bergamo, from 2 to 8 October the Studio House of Piero Cattaneo opens.
