The collective exhibition of contemporary art Monumental Elements, curated by critics Lanfranco Aceti and Alessandro Melis, is an important preview for the fourth edition of the exhibition MAS WEEK, Festival of Architecture, Design and Contemporary Art, created by MAS-Modern Apulian Style, realized by the Ella Association with the contribution of the Municipality of Taranto and the collaboration of CRAC Puglia (Contemporary Art Research Center) and the Taranto Grand Tour, with local and national institutions and associations.
Monumental Elements: theme dedicated to water that is a source of life and inspiration, dynamic force that shapes landscapes, perceptions and social paradigms.
In this exhibition were invited four well-known and established artists: Giulio De Mitri, Laura Mega, Diego Repetto, Oliver Ressler, who have created significant works - as write the curators - "a moment of reflection between ethics, aesthetics and creativity, in the wake of water as a valuable asset. The work of Laura Mega redefines aquatic expressionism, capturing the transient but eternal nature of water, through intricate textile narratives. In the work of Giulio De Mitri the sculptures serve as archaeological finds that bring to light layers of consciousness and collective traditions. Emerging from the depths of the Mediterranean, her sculptures challenge conventional definitions of public art and invite viewers to reconsider their surroundings. Oliver Ressler’s video installation addresses socio-political norms, immersing viewers in a contemplative experience. His works force us to address urgent environmental concerns that often go unnoticed in our daily lives. Diego Repetto looks at the time of water, what has already passed and what remains, explores the polluting nature of humanity and the accumulation of toxic substances in water over time.
The exhibition poses significant questions about the survival, resilience and resilience of a community in the face of the natural and epochal adversities of this last millennium".
Aceti and Melis, as curators, intertwine these different artistic threads in a symphony of reflection and comparison. Monumental Elements invites users to confront the complexity of water and environmental awareness. The exhibition challenges us to re-evaluate our relationship with water, to question conventional artistic norms and explore alternative ways to trigger social change.
The exhibition explores the relationship between water, truth and public art as an integral part of "Students as Researchers: Creative Practice and University Education", a collateral event organized by the New York Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Design, approved by Leslie Lokko, curator of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023.

The exhibition will remain open until 31 October. - Hours: Monday to Friday, from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (During the MAS WEEK Festival, from 24 to 28 October 2023, also open during afternoon hours: 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.)
