The personal exhibition of the artist Silvano Rubino Up-Down: Sacred Conversation in the Casa di Piero della Francesca, headquarters of the Foundation, from 7 October 2023 to 7 January 2024, is curated by Cristina Tonini; organized by the Foundation Piero della Francesca with the collaboration of the Cini Foundation - Institute of History of Art, of the Contemporis ETS Association - Contemporary Culture in Venice, of the DiVetro Sansepolcro Association and the Pentagram Stiftung.
The exhibition was conceived as a tribute by Rubino to the work of Piero della Francesca and in particular at the Pala Montefeltro or Pala di Brera (1472). The Sacred Conversation is built on the basis of a geometric-mathematical canon, the
central perspective. The vanishing point coincides in the perfect oval of Virgo.
Above her the egg, symbol of the cycle of life, rebirth and perfection. The figures in their fixity, in the absence of palpable emotions, communicate a sense of temporal suspension that characterizes the entire composition. The Up-Down installation by Rubino is inspired by the revisited detail of the egg. The artist is himself focused on themes of spirituality, purity and rebirth. From monochrome blue of the panel, which refers to the celestial spirit, a jutting shelf of the same color hosts the objects making up the installation. The egg refers to the origin of life, the golden oval to divine light, the blue glass cup to Piero's shell, as containing the forms of spirituality and the water contained in it to purity. Four installation projects are also on display in the exhibition. Two are related to the Up-Down installation. The other two, coming from the collection of the Cini Foundation – Institute of Art History, are: Mancante, inspired by the absence of the panel of the Baptism of Christ by Piero and Segment of infinity.
