ARTIST'S TESTIMONY
Encountering the culture of past eras has become a constant stimulus for my work. In my graphic works one can easily see the traces of the destructive time and the passing of the world around us that seems to be unchanging. The theme of entropy pervades all of my artwork.
This vision has been inspired by numerous cities and places scattered around the world that I have been able to visit. My first trip to Italy was in 1973 (50 years ago).
Subsequent returns were related to print exhibitions in northern Italian cities.
Southern Italy I got to know together with my wife. I thus made the decision to create copperplate engravings dedicated to the composition of architecture, nature and landscape.
Since the early 1980s, I have been making projects using the technique of intaglio printing. This involves the burin of a copper plate, a method of very laborious work as it is not a spontaneous activity.
The works are created with a well-thought-out rhythm in a slow and measured: "slowly...slowly...slowly...." I describe the world with a simple tool which is the burin that allows me the magic of copper engraving.
Sketches and travel notes often take years to complete.
Matera is a city that holds a special place in my notebook.
I am sure that the realization of this subject will bring me much satisfaction in the future (the sketch I present on the exhibition).
