A cloud of paper invades the sacred space of Eresie Pellegrine's little church on via Madonna degli Studenti. Scraps of shadows imprint the stone, creating a time of
suspension and expectation. In the dark, the visitor, equipped with a flashlight, interacts with the space illuminating the installation, generating exchanges between paper, stone and shadow. "Aerophonia, an unpublished musical composition by Neil Leonard, accompanies the visitor on this journey between present and past, in a space where the presences that inhabit the church can show themselves and play with light, in the time of the contingency of the "here and now" in which magic happens.
Incorporea by architect and visual artist Roberta Pellè, aka p.pourri, is a site-specific installation of paper embroideries,, which interact with space through their shadows. Their composition changes with each installation, but the pieces, made by hand, are 20, all different. A potpourri of solids and voids meticulously crafted with a scalpel. The cuts are precise and incisive, creating a unique embroidery. The act of engraving is sacred, the synthesis of a personal and intuiyive creative act, without any preparatory design. Their composition generates paper clouds which, when lluminated. project their opposite onto the space. The light projected on the wall generates the shadow of the embroidery, the protagonist: she stretches, she shrinks, she dances. Like a dense and voluminous cloud of smoke, the shadow shows itself in its majesty.
Incorporeal is a game of relationships between material and immaterial, between full and empty. Each piece of paper is a part of the artist, to which a shadow corresponds. The ego is fragmented into many parts, into many embroideries that project its own negative onto the space outside. The other thus becomes an obsidian mirror in which to find oneself, if one has the courage to admit one's own shadow.
Aerophonia, recorded by composer/saxophonist Neil Leonard during a residency at Studio concreto, is based on a single saxophone improvisation played in a farmhouse in San Cesario, Lecce. The piece includes fragments of his reflections
music heard up close, reflected in a reverberating scale trumpet and delayed by electronic effects. The recorded melodies intertwine to complete the paper silhouettes
of INCORPOREA and their shadows, to create a surreal and expectant atmosphere inside the Church pf Santa Maria degli Studenti.
