On the occasion of the XIX Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day) organized by AMACI, MACA - Museo Arte Contemporanea Alcamo presents 'Foyer In A Buffer Zone' curated by Landescape. The collective, which curates the Human Not Human museum art direction, has produced a site-specific installation displayed along the performing arts corridor.
Starting from the Giornata del Contemporaneo issue - the global urgencies that confront us with the need to rethink the contemporary art system through a renewed awareness and a more widespread sensitivity -, the exhibition represents contemporary art contradictions that emerge in a conflictual territory: Sicily.
The exhibition "Foyer In A Buffer Zone" distills the collective research into an animated sculptural body within an audiovisual environment. The sound experience gives back the essence of the body on stage, while the screen light reassures the visitor about the intimacy of a fictional experience. If audio is presence, video is absence, in the same context, but out of sync. In the liminal space between the audiovisual hallucination and the visitor's perception, the archetypal figure of the jester appears. Minstrel, one-man-show, clown, puppet, joker all indicate the same intention, to take the scene, entertain the court and the king, and come out alive.
The skin becomes the battlefield where different agents have traced a common memory, as magnetic as the eye, as bold as the ear, as ambiguous as the tongue, as strong as the hands. Tough, tough as skin. A regressus ad infinitum, a figure between two mirrors, a feedback loop, a gash to let light in, an explosion already triggered, libidinosum corpus inhabiting a foyer, a waiting area, a buffer zone: war, fires, the vanity of consumerism, the mafia, black bodies crammed into cages, the extraction of energy, shape an unresolved landscape.
