A work that declines the contemporary to take with you in a hand luggage. This is the bet for 5 artists and a curator winner of the ninth edition of the international competition ARP - PACK AND GO: a traveling residency-workshop that wants to investigate and discuss the notion of contemporary. ARP - Art Residency Project is the program of artistic residencies, conceived and realized by Centro Luigi Di Sarro and supported by Maeci, with the aim of promoting in the art world a disposition to intercultural dialogue and the comparison of practices and methods. The Centro Di Sarro with this itinerant formula wants to try to cross not only the geographical borders, but also the emotional ones. The winners, this year for the first time an all-female group, come from European, Balkan and African countries. They will arrive in Rome to participate in the workshop HIC ET NUNC n.2, an ideal continuation of the work carried out in the previous edition, which will try to force the analysis in key of reinterpretation of contemporary art in the light of the urgent issues of the moment: from the decolonization of the cultural system to the need to confront nature and society. So environment, sustainability, matter and people will be the focus of research. Rome and Naples the cities involved, with their topicality made of stratifications and rebirths of places and cultures. Art historians and critics will speak at the workshop Hic et Nunc n.2. At the end of the residency, on October 7, 2023, adhering to the 19th Day of the contemporary promoted by AMACI, the Centro Luigi Di Sarro will open the doors for a restitution event.
Works by Samela Balazi (Albania), Beatrice Caruso (Italy), Cheriese Dilrajh (South Africa), Anna Martynenko (Ukraine/Germany), Miriro Mwandbiriama (Zimbabwe) reread by Azzurra Pizzi (Italy) will be on display and the public is invited to meet the protagonists of this will be on display and the public is invited to meet the protagonists of this first stage of the journey. ARP will then continue its journey in other places, to travel, work, study in search of a possible synthesis between environments, poetics, techniques and people. The second stage will be in Val Camonica (Brescia) to interact with two other residences: Falìa* in Lozio and Borgo degli Artisti 2.0 in Bienno.
Finally, the ARP group will move to Tirana: the young and lively Albanian capital will host the last event PACK AND GO at the MAD Center of Polis University, thanks to the support of the Italian Institute of Culture, as part of the Week of Contemporary Art in the World promoted by AMACI-MAECI. The appointment is for 13 October 2023 with the works again on display and a talk with students of the Department of Art and Design. Speakers will be the art historian Carlotta Sylos Calò (University of Rome Tor Vergata) and the artist researcher Stefano Romano (Polis University of Tirana) introduced by the Director of the IIC Alessandro Ruggera.
