Maria Cristina Carlini participates in AMACI with the opening of her studio from 10 am to 1 pm.
Maria Cristina Carlini's open studio day provides the opportunity to inhabit the world in which she immerses herself daily and to become acquainted with her ongoing work. To enter the place where she conceives, designs and produces her art. The large dimensions of the studio loft house the display of an extensive range of works, some of imposing size, but mostly small or medium in scale, as well as works on paper, studies and sketches. Also on show are examples of works in progress or ones waiting to be fired in the two large kilns. Visitors can also walk among the monumental sculptures in the recently renovated outdoor spaces. In this place, assiduously occupied since the 1990s, every corner speaks of Maria Cristina Carlini and her artistic journey, such as important meetings with personalities from the art world – artists, critics, curators, gallery owners, museum directors – as well as visits from classes of students and undergraduates that continue to take place here.
Visiting the sculptor's atelier provides an opportunity to explore in person her artistic approach related to nature and its elements, but at the same time to learn about her choice of materials, among them stoneware, iron, Corten steel and reclaimed wood, all of which demonstrate a strong connection with the earth. Through her sculptures, Carlini accompanies visitors in discovering common origins and a shared memory, inescapable components in her philosophy and art making.
Numerous publications linked to Carlini’s national and international exhibitions during the course her career can be consulted in the studio, as well as several films featuring distinguished critics such as Philippe Daverio, and the docufilm Maria Cristina Carlini. Geologies: Memories of the Earth.
