Selfie is a photo you take of yourself, usually with a smartphone or webcam, intended for sharing online.
Selfie is not a synonymous of self-portrait, but has its origins from self-portrait, has a close relationship with the term selfish, and has given birth to various compounds (selfie-mania, selfie-generation).
Selfie is not a connection tool, but a self-promotion tool.
Whatever it is, a mask, or a (com-)pulsion, is one of the main factors of a huge production of images, fundamental element of our belonging to the virtual life of social media.
Even Art (paintings or other stuff), increasingly 'constrained' in its online placement, 'boosts' this overabundance of shareable and shared material.
If the self-portrait still represents an intimate story of our being, how does it relate to the continuous representation of our person?
This project (a selection of around 30 self-portraits in selfie format) aims to suggest well known reflections about this and will continue over time.
