The MA-EC gallery in Milan opens its exhibition season 2024/25 with the solo exhibition of the artist Marco Abrate, entitled PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN, curated by Chiara Canali.

Saturday 12 October, twentieth Giornata del Contemporaneo AMACI, the exhibition will be open to free admission from 15.00 to 19.00.

Born in 1996, known as "Rebor" in the Street Art world, Marco Abrate conceived the idea of his exhibition in 2023 during an artistic residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai (China), which supports the project here.

The fundamental assumption from which the new research of Marco Abrate is born is that the generation of "Millennials" (to which the artist himself belongs) is characterized by a greater use of digital technologies and an extreme familiarity with social media; Its actors exhibit themselves, their relationships and their feelings for the camera, reflecting a condition of media overdrive and large-scale consumption. The online dimension is radically changing the way of living reality itself, not only the enjoyment of art and its images, but also the perception of private feelings such as love.
In a society completely dominated by the "spectacularization" of the media, by the media "overexposure" of emotions, by the fast use of digital images, the project "Peek Behind The Curtain" by Marco Abrate wants to turn the current concept of exhibition upside down.

First of all, the author reconstructs the "frame of material, technological, institutional fiction" (Boris Groys) in which works must be enjoyed. The gallery is no longer a white cube but is transformed into a real home to live and walk through: the rooms serve as domestic environments such as the living room, bedroom, private garden. The condition of fiction is immediately revealed in the first room where a pink curtain (color that returns throughout the artist’s production as a distinctive feature), theatrical, acts as a stage fifth.

The whole exhibition is built on the register of mystery, secret, unveiling: the fifteen paintings, created by the artist, as well as being exhibited on the walls, have been hidden within this architectural set and the viewer is called to leave the apathy of his passive user state, to live a participatory and immersive experience.
