The Galleria A. Sordi, pride of the Italian Art Nouveau, is the reference point for artistic and cultural events in Rome, hosting, on October the 12th, the paintings on aluminium slabs made by Ilaria Paccini during the first annuality of the project “Roma Speciale - Alieni in Movimento in Roma Capitale”. Such a project, promoted by Roma Capitale – Assessorato alla Cultura e curated by Dipartimento di Attività Culturali in collaboration with SIAE, has been defined by ISPRA (Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) as "an embrace between art and the defense of biodiversity" and it is led in cooperation with the “Life-ASAP” (Alien Species Awarness EU Programme): to raise the citizens awareness and active participation on the impact of Invasive Alien Species (I.A.S.). The artworks are live performed on modular panels of oxidised aluminium and painted in the most famous locations of Rome to highlight the point of view on those species moved outside their area of origin by people. At each event, ISPRA experts will explain to the audience the severe imbalances in the ecosystem caused by the uncontrolled spread of the IAS, while Art discloses the complexity of such a problem: the photographic portrait of the audience becomes part of the work, since mankind must be perceived as species among species, while the pictorial technique represents the dynamism of nature.
The oxidation is left free to act, since it changes the picture over the time until its consummation, reminding us that the mankind isn’t eternal.
While the paintings will be exhibited at the Galleria Alberto Sordi, the Artist will be in NYC for a performance at “La MaMa”, a world-renowned New York cultural institution dedicated to the artist and all aspects of the theatre, located in the Lower East Side. On the day of celebration of the Italian Contemporary Art, managed by the AMACI (Contemporary Art Italian Museums Association) it will take place the opening day of both the performance in New York City and the beginning of second annuality of the project “Roma Speciale” in Rome. The keyword “accessibility” is the link between the events of such an happening: the architectural structure of the Galleria A. Sordi, with its urban function as a bridge between the surrounding locations of Trevi Fountain, Via del Tritone and Via del Corso, is the magnificent scene for an exceptional event of contemporary art at service of the environment protection. Like that, Art becomes the intermediary to make important messages accessible, for the protection of biodiversity in the urban environment, not only in Rome, but also in the heart of one of the largest megalopolis in the world: New York City.
