To remember the artist one year after his death, on Saturday 12 October at 6pm Galleria Massella in Via Dietro Filippini 13 in Verona inaugurates the exhibition entitled "Seen by...PROSDOCIMI - La lirica".
Licia Massella, director and curator of the exhibition, announced that this one in Verona will be the first stage of an exhibition that will continue in the town of Prosdocimi, in Bussolengo, in February 2025. The project shared and supported by the artist's family, Carmen Andrea and Nery Prosdocimi, is intended to be a recognition and thanks for a life dedicated to art both locally and nationally.
Prosdocimi's career began in Milan in the 1960s as a Disney designer for Editrice Mondadori, continued with TV, newspapers and Panini stickers and then continued in his native Verona where he decided to live around the 1980s. Until then he returned there to attend the premieres of the Operas at the Arena.
Attending the amphitheater convinced Prosdocimi to deepen his study of that form of entertainment, which he said was "the most complete ever" to the point of creating very particular reportages, made with a felt-tip pen, and then published in the local newspaper and in national magazines. In fact, he portrayed the protagonists of the melodrama in caricature, observing them from a very privileged place, the dressing rooms, where the "metamorphosis" took place where the singers concentrated, put on make-up and took on the role of the heroes and heroines of Verdi, Puccini, Bizet...
Over the years, Prosdocimi's drawings have been the protagonists of colorful exhibitions visited by those directly interested, but also by a large audience, because when presented in this way, the opera became fun. Never irreverent and always celebratory, his caricature attracted attention and interest... Without knowing it, the designer was carrying out a real cultural operation, he had managed to bring everyone closer to opera, overcoming the belief that this was a niche show. Prosdocimi's caricatures are similar, but the lines, sometimes rounder or more angular, are aimed at telling the story of a personality.
The somatic characters are only a part of the drawing because Prosdocimi also focuses on postures, on the movement of a hand, on walking on a stage, on the way of holding an instrument... In some of his very crowded drawings (silkscreens, posters and paintings oil) what catches the eye is the perfect distribution of the figures, which although almost miniaturized and in movement are recognizable in their faces and anatomy, all enhanced by always harmonious and coherent colours.
A rich CV dotted with achievements and recognitions make him an artist who will go down in history for his human sensitivity and technical ability.
The event on October 12th takes place in conjunction with the Verona Art Fair, in an atmosphere that is culturally important for the city.
