A CHURCH, A GARDEN: Two guided tours of the church at the Bergamo Hospital. Since its consecration in 2014, the Church of Saint John XXIII, located within the Bergamo hospital grounds, has welcomed the faithful into a place of great enchantment. Inside a white cube, where light enters through small round openings and from above, some of the most prominent contemporary artists from Bergamo have created a space filled with meaning through their works. At the entrance, the Via Crucis by the collective FerrarioFreres sets the various Stations of the Passion of Christ in the same moment, in a transformed Bergamo Alta, depicted as Calvary, among ordinary people. Behind the altar, Andrea Mastrovito’s poignant Crucifixion relates Christ’s suffering, the pain of death, and the hope of salvation to the human experiences of those visiting the hospital, offering comfort to the sick and their loved ones. Along the walls, Stefano Arienti recreates a dense vegetation: where there is anguish, the church becomes an ideal place, the paradise-garden within each of us. 4:30 PM and 7:15 PM, duration approximately 50 minutes - Meeting point at the entrance of the Hospital Church - Free admission, booking recommended on Eventbrite.
