As part of the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day), a major event promoted annually by AMACI - Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums with the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Italian artist Marta Sponzilli will present the performance ‘Bagliori’ at the Italian Cultural Institute.
‘Bagliori’ is a research that stems from an interest in the relationship between the invisible and subtle body and the material body, with the intention of developing a practice of movement and dance that manifests itself from an increased perception of the interior of the body.
"I study the body and the ways of conceiving it, of representing it, of feeling it, of moving it. I am fascinated by how in different cultural traditions there are surprising coincidences regarding the possibilities of the body, the technologies to enhance its sensitivity, to refine the perception of reality and to transcend habits, limitations that often do not allow the expression of the extraordinary potential of the human being.
One of the gateways to these traditions is to study and experience the system by which the body is represented, mapped, and language is used to guide the experience (examples could be the subtle body according to Hatha Yoga or the Japanese system of energy meridians).
Maps are creations that can modify our reality, disorganising and reorganising the body. With the study of the subtle body and a reflection on maps, I have identified the importance of points as a fundamental sign to orient oneself and begin to trace paths. Points or centres. If we look at the constellations, the stars appear as bright points, flashes that can indicate where.’ (Marta Sponzilli)
