Illustrator Olimpia Zagnoli presents her exhibition ‘Building bridges: an illustrated conversation with and within Gio Ponti’, consisting of 17 original drawings created especially for the Italian Cultural Institute. The exhibition combines Zagnoli's typical forms with the aesthetics of Gio Ponti, drawing inspiration from both the Institute and Ponti's building in Milan where Zagnoli lives.
Zagnoli makes no secret of his interest in Ponti's forms and design ideas, elaborated in a highly personal way and re-proposed in drawings in which the female figures that characterise his entire oeuvre joyfully dialogue with Ponti’s suggestions. The exhibition is therefore a memorial evocation of Milan in the second half of the 20th century, starting from the ironic and cheerful gaze of one of the most intense interpreters of contemporaneity.
