On Saturday 12 October 2024, at 6:00 pm, at the Ex Convento del Convento del Carmine Marsala, “BALLABILE. Between sign and colour in the Collection of the Pinacoteca Civica di Marsala” will be presented, curated by Gianna Panicola. The exhibition documents, through a significant exhibition itinerary, the growth and evolution of that sign and colour that characterised the international artistic dynamics of the Second Post-War period and abstractionism in Italy. With the artists in the exhibition - Carla Accardi, Mirko Basaldella, Renata Boero, Pietro Consagra, Primo Conti, Michele Cossyro, Elio Marchegiani, Ignazio Moncada, Elisa Montessori, Pino Pinelli, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Antonio Sanfilippo, Luigi Veronesi - we can follow an oscillation of the sign, from its unfolding in arabesques, flowing lines, beams of light, to the almost molecular disintegration of color, to the abandonment to its spatial tension.
“Ballabile” is the title of a painting by Ignazio Moncada that is part of the series of the Nineties-2000s, dedicated to music, dance and myth, an expression of a renewed feeling of color, of its playful, mobile, in a certain sense dancing spirit. In Moncada he had expressed himself in the first interventions of Pont Art by extending his canvases in the architectural space in a comparison with the dynamism of the urban space. It is a rhythmic movement, a simultaneous dance, a sound impulse, a danceable motif. A union of sign and color is generated that will accompany artists, such as Carla Accardi and Antonio San Filippo, throughout their existence.
With Pietro Consagra, sculpture through the sign/color lives the space and at the same time passes through it, favoring a certain continuity and openness: “I felt lucky to enter marble sculpture with all the variability of color that others discard as a disturbance to the plastic unity”.
Arnaldo Pomodoro, present in the collection with one of his ‘shields’, implements “an intense stratification, an investigation of all possible relationships, an elaboration of all the automatic signs of a surface that has a growing dilation, for a new dimension of its restless movement”. (Marcatrè Notiziario di cultura contemporanea, 1964, II annata, interview by Mila Pistoi).

The exhibition, organized by the Contemporary Painting Exhibition Body “Città di Marsala”, participates in the twentieth Contemporary Day, promoted by AMACI and can be visited free of charge until November 12, 2024.
