On the occasion of the 20th Giornata del Contemporaneo, The Sharing is pleased to present BODY AND SOUL, a video art event by the creative duo APOTROPIA, promoted in collaboration with the Rough Dive Bar in San Salvario. For this venue, Apotropia has selected six video dance works from their archive, focusing on the theme of the body and the interpolation of its representation through multimedia intersections. The event will take place on Saturday, October 12, from 6:00 PM to midnight at the Rough Dive Bar, Via Principe Tommaso 3. At 8:00 PM, during the aperitif, there will be a moment of dialogue with the artists, Antonella Mignone and
The Artists:
APOTROPIA is a project born from the artistic partnership between Antonella Mignone (Turin, 1980) and Cristiano Panepuccia (Rome, 1979). Active since 2007, their research explores the anthropological roots and philosophical-scientific components of human culture through the languages of video, dance, sound, installation, and performance. On the evening of October 12, APOTROPIA will offer the audience a retrospective of their journey, divided into two parts.
The first part will be dedicated to the DROP suite (2014-in progress), in which the personal story of the two artists is traced through a series of works that explore Control and Infinity as fundamental driving forces of human nature. The injured body of a dancer, the victim of a serious car accident, becomes the starting point for an inner journey in the face of the interruption of her life projects. The finitude of the body—its perception and its control over the material world—becomes the threshold for accessing the infinite spaces of the spirit.
In the second part, the works will instead perform a symbolism of the living body, addressing themes such as the transience of physical contact, the fragmentation of the self, and its alterations through social mimicry and masks. The body becomes choreography, discourse, ritual, revealing itself as the privileged medium for exploring the indefinable depths of human nature.
The Venue:
Located in the foyer of the former Maffei cinema, the Rough Dive Bar actively embodies the cinematic and transgressive soul of its chosen location. This makes it the ideal stage to resonate with APOTROPIA’s work. As a promoter of cultural events and film festivals dedicated to auteur cinema, the Rough is an environment where transgression has ceased to be an act of pure rebellion, instead becoming an accessible space for awareness. A gallery of unframed paintings, a liminal threshold of a cinema hall, the Rough rejects social labels based on ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation, making it the perfect habitat to embrace the vitality of each of its patrons.
