The project “Los panes del mundo” (The breads of the world) is structured with itinerant exhibitions, performances, installations and educational workshops to spread a more conscious approach to the issue of food waste.
On the occasion of World Bread Day, which is celebrated on October 16, like every year, Mario Alvarez gives life to the event “Pane nei vicoli” (Bread in the alleys): a shared performance to recognize each other as neighbors, as human beings, to exchange bread and give life to the joy of multiplying bread and peace.
On the same occasion Mario Alvarez will continue with the initiative “Pane e poesia (Bread and poetry), to celebrate the art of bread and words.
It starts from Forno da Milvio, in via dei Serpenti 7, with a double tribute: we will remember the poet-baker Francesco Tonelli from Lerici with whom Mario Alvarez made bread while they read poems and we will remember Milvio Pallotta, historic baker of Rome, previous owner of the bakery. Mario Alvarez will make a bread with the new owner of Forno da Milvio, Flavio Tallone.
The artist Mario Alvarez creates this project with the intent of sharing a culture of peace, convinced that contemporary art has the ability to raise awareness on issues such as sustainability, environment, biodiversity, food waste, through a culture of peace and sharing.
The project is the result of the artistic and personal research path of the artist who has always been concerned with nature and its protection, recycling and recovering waste materials for his works of art and who has always considered food sacred and both in his life, as in his work, recovers and revalues food to avoid wasting it.
From a leftover dough, the artist creates a sculpture of sourdough that represents the ferment that gives rise to bread, the primary form of food and sharing for human beings.
