"Are Museums Having an Ecological Turn?" explores how museums are adapting to the climate crisis, examining their potential to engage with sustainability, conservation, and the long-term survival of the planet.
Drawing on insights from Museums at the Ecological Turn (AMACI & NERO, 2024), the panel reflects on how museums can serve as ethical agents in the face of ecological collapse, particularly through the work of Jumana Manna, whose artistic practice highlights the complex relationship between ecology and politics, critiquing extractivism and colonial conservation practices.
A second key focus of the discussion will be the exhibition and publication Things That Were Are Things Again (EECLECTIC, 2025), an experimental attempt by GfZK (Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst), Leipzig to curate a climate-neutral collection show — developed in collaboration with artists and designers to implement circular strategies, reduce energy consumption, and rethink resource use.
Through these lenses, the panel considers the potential of museums to foster ecological awareness, social transformation, and sustainable futures.

MISS READ — THE BERLIN ART BOOK FAIR
From 13 to 15 June, MISS READ returns to Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) with 300 exhibitors from 50 countries. The festival gathers independent publishers, artists, authors, and theorists to celebrate, discuss, and explore contemporary publishing practices.
This year’s focus on Ecological Publishing asks what sustainable publishing looks like in the age of the anthropocene— between low-impact printing, local production, and post-anthropocentric narrative forms.
The three-day public programme includes lectures, panels, performances, and workshops. On Saturday, 14 June, the annual Conceptual Poetics Day explores the imaginary border between visual art and literature.
Founded in 2009, MISS READ is a vital platform for independent, artistic, and critical publishing. Locally rooted and globally connected, the festival is committed to promoting cultures and communities from all over the world.
