On Thursday, October 2 at 6:00 PM, No Memory Is Innocent, the first book by Iginio De Luca, will be presented at AlbumArte. It is the first book, that is, in which the artist engages in writing—a free-flowing narrative that stems from his visions and returns to his works, offering us hours of exquisite reading along the way. The book contains ten stories, set between a childhood in the 1970s and the maturity of a contemporary artist—ten chapters narrating the genesis of ten different artworks.
The book is published by Gli Ori in the “I Limoni” series, directed by Pietro Gaglianò. Each story is illustrated with two pen drawings—an uncommon medium in De Luca's usual work—used here to emphasize a speculative dimension where memory and its reworking are reunited. In this binary rhythm, the first drawing evokes the distant past, reconstructing the moment that inspired the artwork; the second drawing shows an aspect of the artwork itself—its formal synthesis, which takes shape as a performance, a blitz, a sound action, a collective project—one of the many languages explored by the artist.
Iginio De Luca (b. 1966) graduated in Painting in 1989 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he currently teaches in the Decoration program. An artist and musician, he lives and works in Rome and works with video, installation, and performance. His “blitzes” are actions that lie between urban art and performance, often involving unauthorized interventions in public space, exposing—through irony and activism—the value crises of our time. His work has been featured in major interdisciplinary projects and has been the subject of solo exhibitions in galleries and independent spaces in Italy and abroad. Numerous publications have been dedicated to his artistic research.
Pietro Gaglianò (b. 1975), with a degree in architecture, is an art critic, educator, and independent curator. He explores the relationship between the aesthetics of power and the counter-narratives enacted by art, often focusing on the urban and social context as the stage for contemporary artistic languages. His projects experiment with hybrid formats between art, pedagogy, and social sciences, fostering political awareness of public space and community. He teaches Art and Criticism at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence.
