On the occasion of the twenty-first edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana presents, within the Annotazioni Video program, a meeting with the artistic duo MASBEDO, who will present their video Fragile.

Annotazioni Video, curated by Stefano Romano, is a project dedicated to exploring contemporary Italian and Albanian artistic practices through the medium of video.

As part of this program, Fragile will be screened. The video shows a young visitor walking through the gallery halls accompanied by a peacock. Among masterpieces of antiquity, symbols of archetypal beauty, the presence of the animal emphasizes the fragility of life and its limitations. The emptiness of the halls, contrasted with the immobility of the painted figures, enhances the dramatic and contemplative impact of the imagery.

The central theme of the work is care: the elderly animal becomes a metaphor for fading vanity and the eternal journey toward beauty, described by Rainer Maria Rilke as “the tremendous at its beginning.” The fragility of art, evoked by the title, captures the viewer’s gaze and invites reflection on the importance of protecting artistic and cultural heritage as a form of resistance against time and human neglect.

Following the screening, a conversation between the artists and the curator will take place, offering the audience the opportunity to explore the content, intentions, and reflections underlying the video.

MASBEDO, composed of Nicolò Massazza and Iacopo Bedogni, has been working together since 1999 and is based in Milan and Piacenza. Their practice spans video, installations, cinema, performance, theater, and sound design, exploring human relationships, contemporary subjectivity, and the intersection between cinema and art. Their works have been presented in major museums, biennials, and international festivals, including Manifesta, MAXXI Rome, Centre Pompidou, as well as film festivals such as Venice, Locarno, CPH:DOX, and IFFR Rotterdam.

The event offers a unique opportunity to observe how contemporary video transforms the viewer’s perception, encouraging reflections on time, memory, care, and the fragility of art.
