With the day being long and our eyes being open for much of it, so much of what we feel is lost in the space between our eyes and the rest of the world.
"A rehearsal" invites but doesn’t require active participation from the audience. It is, nevertheless, essentially an experiment with anger, frustration and calm one might feel over the course of days.
While South Tirol is understood as a holiday retreat where one leaves the world behind, strong feelings that we have do not simply go elsewhere when we ask for a respite.
In fact, many believe that it is healing to directly relatate with one’s emotions. They say that one-ness within oneself and others is nurturing.
But equally, and differently, having distance with ones emotions also lauded as a way to process feelings and underpins the idea of a wellness retreat.
What is the balance between strong feeling and action that creates a new kind of emotion?
The workshop/performance (otherwise known as a rehearsal) "In the balance with anger and calm” takes an active approach to feeling in performance. It works to make a spatial choreography of emotions for the audience to relate to. Its simple scenography artificially abstracts the space and time into a grid pattern that may be inhabited for rehearsal. The rehearsal is the performance. It incorporates subtle movements and vocalization to sustains a variety of feelings of the course of what in the end is a short practice for something that lasts much longer.
