On the occasion of the 21st edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day), the Farnesina Collection opens its doors to the public with four guided tours through the representative spaces of the Palazzo della Farnesina. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire some of the most significant works in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s collection of contemporary art, from Alberto Burri to Jannis Kounellis, from Emilio Vedova to Piero Dorazio.
The Farnesina Collection, one of the largest public collections of Italian contemporary art, is part of the Ministry’s everyday life, making culture an important element of Italian foreign policy and offering guests and international delegations a narrative of the evolution of Italian art from the 20th century to today.
The theme chosen for this 21st edition, education, lies at the heart of cultural diplomacy: a concept of education that goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge to become a dynamic process of exchange and mutual growth, capable of fostering lasting cultural ties between Italy and the world. From this perspective, contemporary art becomes a shared space of knowledge and skills.
This is the meaning of the Farnesina’s participation in the Giornata del Contemporaneo: to bear witness to the idea that culture is one of the most powerful tools of dialogue and international cooperation, and that supporting creativity means investing in a strategic sector for the country—one that makes a significant contribution to Italy’s global image.
