Descrizione

On the occasion of the 21st Day of Contemporary Art, promoted by AMACI – the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, the Summa Foundation will exceptionally open to the public Franco Summa’s artist house/studio on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Recognized as a site of cultural interest by the Regional Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, the house/studio is a living, authentic space where art merges with life. This special opening will offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the Maestro’s creative universe up close — through sketches, installations, archival materials, and works that reveal the deep connection between art, the city, and civic participation.

Franco Summa, a central figure in environmental art who passed away in 2020, saw art as an act of collective regeneration — a force capable of transforming public spaces into places of connection, beauty, and meaning. Visiting his house/studio is therefore a journey into the heart of his thinking: an art nourished by places, stories, and memories, restoring value to the everyday.

A collective tribute also in Città Sant’Angelo

On the same day, also as part of the Day of Contemporary Art, the legacy of Franco Summa will be celebrated in Città Sant’Angelo with the event: "50 Years Later… Plant a Rainbow at the End of the Street"

Location: Steps of the former Church of Sant’Agostino, Città Sant’Angelo (PE)
Dates: Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5, 2025
Start time (Saturday 4): 10:00 AM

Promoted by Statt! APS, conceived by artist Martina D’Alesio, and realized in collaboration with the Summa Foundation, with the patronage of the Municipality of Città Sant’Angelo and the support of ColorMax and Fer Color 87, the event commemorates a renowned urban intervention carried out by Summa fifty years ago. His symbolic colors will be revived on a historic staircase and through a collective installation of “flowered” shoes, rich with memory, engagement, and hope.

Creative workshops, personal stories, and participatory activities will involve both adults and children in a shared action inspired by the idea of public, inclusive, and regenerative art.

A double event to rediscover and share the legacy of an artist who turned art into a communal gesture — one that gives shape to thought, to place, and to the future.
