Studio Visit for the 21st Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day).
Opening the doors of an artist’s studio means opening a threshold. A studio visit is not a conventional exhibition, but an intimate and direct encounter between an artist and their visitors, inside the very place where ideas take shape. Unlike galleries or museums — spaces where the artwork appears as a finished product, detached from its process — the studio reveals what lies behind the scenes: the uncertain paths, the tools, the trials and errors, and the sudden flashes of insight. It is a living space, inhabited by creation in the making. Entering it means experiencing art not merely as an outcome, but as a process in motion.
A studio visit offers a holistic and personal perspective: here, dialogue is unmediated, born from the direct sharing of space, time, and imagination. It is an opportunity to approach the work differently, allowing material, gesture, and conversation to open up new ways of understanding.
The chosen title for the event — The Exquisite Corpse Will Drink the New Wine — is a tribute to the famous Surrealist game Cadavre Exquis, invented in Paris in 1925. The Surrealists conceived this collective practice to explore shared creativity and the unconscious: each participant contributes a word, a fragment of a sentence, or a drawing without knowing what others have done before. The result is often surprising and poetic, revealing unexpected connections and meanings that no single individual could have devised alone. Beneath this playful method lies a profound idea: the artwork is never entirely in the hands of its author; it emerges from the encounter of multiple visions, desires, and imaginations.
During the event, visitors will be invited to step inside the studio, explore the artist’s creative process firsthand, and take part in a collective Cadavre Exquis, letting the individual dimension intertwine with the collective one. It will be a moment to observe, to converse, to create — and, perhaps, to be surprised by the new wine of imagination.
