Mart, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto
DESCRIPTION
Conceived as a cultural hub rather than a traditional museum, the Mart has three locations: the Museum's headquarters (a large architectural complex inaugurated in 2002 and designed by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli) and the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero are in Rovereto; the Galleria Civica, which became part of the Mart in October 2013, is in Trento. As part of the wider cultural scene in Trentino, the Museum is a true contemporary landscape. The suburban nature of the area has enabled a quality initiative that responds to the needs of those who love culture, nature and well-being.
The Mart’s holdings are inestimable: they include some of the greatest masterpieces of 20th century Italian art, and every year the Museum organises dozens of exhibitions and projects. The Mart's Collections include around 20,000 works of art ranging from the nineteenth century to contemporary art, including Futurism, the Novecento Italiano, Abstractionism, Informal Art, Arte Povera, and Transavanguardia up to the most recent artistic research. More than 80 book and document collections from artists, architects, critics and galleries comprise the Archivio del ’900: a cultural laboratory combining exhibitions, study and research.
