MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna
DESCRIPTION
MAMbo, inaugurated in 2007, is the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna. Housed in the historic building of the former Forno del Pane, it is the seat of the Institution Bologna Museums dedicated to contemporary art. The history of the museum is inextricably linked to the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna, an institution that gave its origins to the current museum and on whichare based the foundations of research, design and cultural debate. The permanent collection The collections inherited from Mambo have been formed since the end of the eighteenth century thanks to the awards established at the Academy of Fine Arts and the City and have grown over time with legacies, donations, purchases. Since the opening of MAMbo on May 5 in 2007, the permanent exhibition offers the public an interpretation of Italian art through the history of GAM and subsequent acquisitions, from the ‘50s to the most recent developments. The increase of the heritage has received a considerable boost in recent years, thanks to the establishment of awards announced by the MIC, such as Italian Council and Cantica21, which have allowed MAMbo to acquire numerous works of artists already well-known or emerging. Further additions to the exhibition, which is divided into different thematic areas, are allowed by loans granted by private individuals. The exhibition activity Through an intense exhibition activity, MAMbo explores the present and helps to trace new ways of art following the most innovative practices of experimentation. The Sala delle Ciminiere, located on the ground floor, is the privileged place for research on the new generations of Italian and international artists, experimental media and emerging names not yet presented in Italy, with particular attention, by the museum, to the production of new works. All the temporary exhibitions, large monographs and collective of Italian and international artists, develop in a perspective open to research and dialectics between the works and the exhibition context. The Project Room, in the spaces of the permanent collection, hosts exhibitions dedicated to the artistic dynamics in Bologna and the regional territory and in-depth exhibitions on themes related to the collections. Since 2016, the external headquarters of Villa delle Rose hosts, in addition to collective and monographic exhibitions organized in collaboration with foreign institutions, the winning artists of the ROSE residency project.
